Presence Film
Steven Soderbergh pushes his directorial skills through this clever supernatural story shot entirely through the eyes of the phantom. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe moves into their recent residence, the lens – representing the ghost – shadows their actions. Chloe seems sensing the ghostly being, and it looks like guarding her. Yet what is the reason? This is an entertaining concept that avoids overstaying, with a twist that may be unexpected. This Dramatic Portrait
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for Mammon in this director's wonderfully garish true story regarding the shamed televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield acts as the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals set about capitalizing on the people's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of poor styling, bad makeup and bad faith, though the lead actress manages to present the real-life figure in a likable light. October 14th, early morning, Film4
